The importance of moisturiser

Why It's So Important To Use A Face Moisturiser for skin hydration and anti-ageing

Using a face moisturiser daily could be one of the most important steps we can incorporate into our skincare routines – and not just for those with dry skin. The ultimate self-care ritual; moisturising is essential for maintaining a youthful appearance and healthy, supple, glowing skin. Daily moisturising can have profound anti-ageing benefits and, with the right ingredients, also work towards visibly reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of skin ageing.

What is moisturising?

In a nutshell, moisturising is applying a hydration-rich product – a lotion, cream, or gel – to the skin after cleansing. This helps provide a protective barrier over the skin, locking in hydration and preventing the skin from drying out, while nourishing ingredients work on improving the skin's health.

What to look for in a moisturiser

Moisturisers should contain ingredients that provide essential hydration to the skin, with minimal irritation from long lists of unnecessary elements. Generally, a day moisturiser will be more lightweight. It may contain more protective ingredients and SPF qualities, while a night moisturiser is heavier and contains ingredients that work to replenish and repair the skin overnight.

A key ingredient in a moisturiser is Collagen, which acts as a hydrating barrier that promotes skin elasticity and a youthful, glowing complexion.

Why should I moisturise?

Moisturising helps balance the skin

Daily moisturising can help balance out extra oily or dry skin. It does this by providing a 'base' level of hydration – so oily skin won't feel the need to "over-produce" oils, and dry skin types will get the extra hydration needed. This can help with problematic or acne-prone skin by assisting the skin in naturally balancing out its oil production.

Moisturising helps to protect the skin

Our skin is exposed daily to damaging elements like pollution, UV rays, and other external elements, which can lead to signs of ageing, breakouts, redness, and dryness. Moisturising daily helps supplement the skin's barrier to help keep these elements out and to keep the good things like moisture and hydration in.

Moisturising has anti-ageing effects

By protecting the skin against external ageing factors and replenishing and locking in hydration, a good moisturiser will help the skin maintain elasticity and suppleness, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, imperfections and helping to prevent them from forming.

Whether we're applying a luxurious moisturiser before bed, knowing we'll wake up with soft, supple skin in the morning – or using a daily SPF as a protective layer before heading out for the day – incorporating a daily moisturiser will have skin feeling hydrated AND keep it youthful and glowing.
